“Windows Level II”
Windows Level II is a 9-hour course building on the knowledge gained in the foundation Windows courses. It provides higher-level information regarding the “operating system” on which Windows-based software runs. This course will also cover the same material that will be presented in the PC Housekeeping course. Prerequisites include a basic understanding of computer operations as provided in “Intro to Computers,” and a basic knowledge of the Windows operating system as provided in “Windows Level I.”

Course Content:

  • Moving and copying files using My Computer and Windows Explorer;

  • Deleting and restoring files using My Computer and Windows Explorer;

  • Using the Taskbar to run multiple programs and switch between tasks;

  • Using SEARCH/FIND from the Start Menu to find misplaced files on the computer;

  • Windows Interaction with the Internet;

  • System and disk maintenance including: disk defragmenting (optimizing), scan disk and disk cleanup, using the Maintenance Wizard to automate these system tasks;

  • Creating a “Docucentric” Desktop: creating document scraps and short cuts,  using the Send To Command, customizing the desktop and start menu            folders;

  • Using and understanding Control Panel components including: Display settings, Sound settings, Add/Remove Software, Power Management (saving energy), setting the Date/Time, Fonts (viewing, grouping similar fonts, installing, removing), Desktop Themes, Internet Options;

  • Printers: Printer properties, adding a printer, setting a printer as default, removing a printer, identifying shared and network printers;

  • Menus and commands in depth;

  • Formatting a disk, understanding formatting;

  • Identifying file types by their icons and by the file extensions;

  • Backing up files and disks. Restoring backed up files

Students who complete all the scheduled hours of the class will receive a certificate of completion from the Corry Higher Education Council.
