“Windows Level I”

Windows is a 9-hour foundation course providing a working knowledge of the computer's “operating system” on which Windows-based software runs. Prerequisites include a basic understanding of computer operations and mouse manipulation as provided in “Intro to Computers.” Successful completion  of Windows, or equivalent knowledge, is required before taking such Windows-based courses as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, QuickBooks, or PhotoShop.

Course Content:

  • Different ways to use the mouse;

  • Starting a program;

  • Using menus, toolbars, dialogue boxes, scroll bars and Help;

  • Shutting down Windows correctly;

  • Understanding file management (i.e. “how not to get lost;” or avoiding “where’s that file?”), Using "Save" & "Save As";

  • Viewing files and creating folders with My Computer and Windows explorer;

Demonstrated only:

  • Sizing and resizing windows;

  • Using the paint program;

  • Working with the Task Bar and multiple programs.

A text is included with the cost of the course. Students who complete all the scheduled hours of the class will receive a certificate of completion from the Corry Higher Education Council.
